Simcyp
Limited appoints Professor Carl Peck to its Scientific Advisory Board
Sheffield, UK, 17th March 2008 –
Simcyp Limited today announces the appointment of Professor Carl Peck to the
Simcyp Scientific Advisory Board. Professor Peck is the founding Director of
the Center for Drug Development Science at UCSF, a former Director of the US
FDA Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, and a former Assistant Surgeon
General of the United States. He takes up his appointment with immediate
effect.
Professor Peck’s research interests centre on optimising the informative
value, efficiency, speed and economy of drug development and regulation using
advanced concepts and techniques of clinical pharmacology, trial designs, and
pharmacostatistical modelling and simulation. These interests align with
Simcyp, a leader in population-based pharmacokinetic modelling and simulation.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Peck said: “Becoming a member of the
Simcyp Scientific Advisory Board matches my long championship of in silico
predictive methods in drug development and regulation. I am thrilled to join
the Simcyp team and expect to add clinical and regulatory perspectives to
advance Simcyp’s activities.”
The Simcyp Population-based ADME Simulator is an advanced platform for
modelling and simulation of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism and
elimination (ADME) in virtual populations using routinely generated in vitro
data. The Simulator is licensed to members of the Simcyp Consortium, which
includes 9 of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Scientific
development at Simcyp is guided by the Simcyp Consortium and the Scientific
Advisory Board, ensuring that Simcyp’s products and services meet and exceed
industry need.
Commenting on the appointment, Professor Geoff Tucker, Chairman of Simcyp
Limited, said: “We are delighted that an individual of such experience is
joining our Scientific Advisory Board, and we look forward to working closely
with Carl as the Company develops into new areas of pharmacometrics.”

About Simcyp
Simcyp is a research-based company providing a modelling and simulation
platform for predicting the fate of drugs in virtual populations, including
paediatric populations. From this, individual patients likely to be at extreme
risk from adverse reaction can be identified, and unnecessary exposure to
human volunteers and animals can be minimised. The limitations of candidate
compounds, including potential drug-drug interactions, can be assessed and
managed prior to human studies, allowing better focus of drug development
resources.
Simcyp licenses the Simulator platform to its Consortium clients. Academic
licenses to support research activities are also granted to Centres of
Excellence in Europe, USA and Japan. Simcyp maintains strong academic links
and conducts internationally recognised research and development. In addition,
the Company offers consultancy services, and runs education programmes around
the world.
