Amorphous and partially amorphous drug analysis and
formulation takes centre stage through Synectix |
14 September 2007: UK pharmaceutical firm Synectix
Pharmaceutical Solutions Ltd is set to take centre stage in the formulation and
analysis of amorphous and partially amorphous drugs, thanks to the launch of its
comprehensive range of contract research services to support the drug
development programs of pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare companies.
Dr Mark Saunders, Development Director at Synectix comments, “poorly soluble
compounds represent over 60% of drugs currently in development, which has
resulted in an increased demand for amorphous drug delivery systems as companies
are now turning more often to this form to improve the solubility,
bioavailability and efficacy of their products. At Synectix, our scientists are
at the forefront of this exciting and dynamic field, having spent many years
developing novel analytical tools and methodologies to help characterise and
understand the physicochemical properties of amorphous and partially amorphous
drugs, as well as developing bespoke formulations to improve drug solubility and
bioavailability. Through direct access to our technology-sharing platforms, we
can act as an extension of our clients’ own R&D facilities, supporting their
product development from concept through to creation.”
The team at Synectix combines many years experience within the pharmaceutical
and biotech sectors to offer a world-class level of expertise and
professionalism to a wide range of clients. The company’s business model is
unique within the industry, delivering Plc standards and SME flexibility within
a lean operational structure which combines the highest level of academic and
industry expertise with experienced international commercial business
leadership. The main attraction of this winning group is the formula of a
strong, balanced executive team working in tandem with a world-renowned
Scientific Advisory Board to help steer product and company development to
provide real-world working solutions for its clients. The business is
well-funded and 100% owned by the team, ensuring all have a vested interest and
will share in the company’s success.
Dr Ken Caldicott, Chief Scientific Officer and Qualified Person (QP) at Synectix,
said: “Having spent the last thirty years working in a pharmaceutical
development setting, I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with such
cutting-edge researchers and to help to produce workable solutions for our
colleagues in the industry.”
Dr Mark Saunders is pleased the business set-up has been met with such
enthusiasm: “This organisation’s work involves a very high level of scientific
expertise and we are delighted it is further enhanced by ICT-led communications,
enabling us to gather global knowledge of some of the best pharmaceutical minds.
Our entire team is focused on working in this specialised sector and our aim is
to provide our clients with a world-class and comprehensive resource for
amorphous dosage form development and analysis.
This year the team plans to concentrate their efforts on European markets, with
direct marketing initially to UK and Scandinavian companies. For the long term
their commercial plans stretch into the US, Japan and also India for drug
delivery technology design, pharmaceutical characterisation, formulation
development support and particle engineering.
Synectix Pharmaceutical Solutions Ltd is based at the Tredomen Business and
Technology Park, near Cardiff, UK.
