Thermo Introduces New
Sorvall RC-6 Plus Super-speed Centrifuge |
Superior functionality, safety and reliability
ORLANDO, FLORIDA (March 13, 2006) — Thermo Electron Corporation, the
world leader in analytical instruments, today unveiled the new Sorvall® RC-6™
Plus high-speed floor model centrifuge. Based on Thermo’s highly successful and
reliable Sorvall RC-6 centrifuge platform, this enhanced model combines a small
footprint, superior functionality, increased safety and improved speed for the
efficient harvesting of cells, homogenate clarification, isolation of
subcellular fractions (including nucleic acids), and pelleting protein and virus
precipitates.
Thermo’s new Sorvall RC-6 Plus super-speed centrifuge is a high-productivity
solution delivering maximum throughput and minimal maintenance. As the only
centrifuge in its class that does not require being anchored to the floor to
meet CE and CSA safety standards, the Sorvall RC6 Plus uniquely combines safety
with ease of placement within the facility. Its increased operating speeds of up
to 22,000rpm and rapid acceleration/deceleration rates mean faster separations,
enabling users to process more samples in less time. The Sorvall RC-6 Plus
super-speed centrifuge also features an expanded rotor set that now includes
continuous flow rotors, as well as new composite rotors. These advanced rotors
not only broaden the range of applications supported by the RC-6 Plus platform,
but also simplify preparation procedures by spinning disposable containers at
much higher speeds. All Sorvall RC-6 rotors are compatible with the new RC-6
Plus centrifuge, as are most Sorvall RC-5 rotors, making the Sorvall RC-6 Plus
centrifuge a cost-effective addition for labs currently utilizing Sorvall
high-speed centrifuges.
The RC-6 Plus super-speed centrifuge offers easy operation through its simple,
intuitive controls and compact design. Users can program convenient start and
stop times for runs, giving researchers the flexibility to schedule runs when
needed. Vacuum-free operation ensures minimal maintenance, sample protection and
rotary balance. Optional enhancements include GMP/GLP-compatible data management
offering traceability and quality control for biopharmaceutical processing
needs.
The new Sorvall RC-6 Plus super-speed centrifuge will be showcased at Thermo
booth #3733 at the PITTCON event (57th Pittsburgh Conference on Analytical
Chemistry and Applied Spectroscopy) which will be held March 12-17, 2006 at the
Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, Florida. For more information, please
