A simple blood test can now be used to help identify a wide range of diseases

27 February 2008: A simple biomarker blood test now can be used to aid in the identification of many diseases and conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer, metabolic disorder, autoimmune disease, viral and bacterial diseases, hormonal imbalances and nutritional problems.

Biophysical250, provided exclusively in the UK by Westover Clinics, tests over 250 biomarkers. Biomarkers are proteins or chemicals found in the blood (like glucose and cholesterol) and the appearance of specific biomarkers or changes in these biomarkers’ levels, can be an indication of ill health or developing illnesses.

Through early identification of abnormal levels of specific biomarkers, the doctor can take action to stop the development of more serious conditions and diseases, through a personalised healthcare programme.

Before taking the Biophysical250 test, patients have a consultation to take a complete medical history. The blood sample is then sent to the USA for laboratory analysis using a battery of tests to assess 60 biomarkers commonly used in general medicine, 80 biomarkers used in 12 medical specialties and 110 biomarkers that are primarily used in medical research.

The results of the tests are provided to the patient approximately 15 days following their blood draw, during a full consultation with a Westover general practitioner trained and experienced in assessing the implications of this full range of tests. Medical advice and specialist referrals are then made by the GP and a comprehensive, easy-to-read report analyzing all the Biophysical250 biomarkers is then given to the patient for their own reference. The test costs £2,200 and is available exclusively within the UK at Westover’s Brompton Cross Clinic.
