Polyclinics do work!
Dr Amber Kennard, CEO of Westover Medical, commenting on the role of polyclinics
in the NHS said:
“Polyclinics are all about the provision of modern medicine and giving patients
what they need, when they want it. It is all about how you set them up. Westover
has demonstrated that polyclinics can provide a convenient local GP service,
combined with access to specialist medical services. We do this in the private
sector – and the good news is that we can report that our members and patients
like this approach so much that they are actually prepared to pay for it!
“The polyclinic approach allows our patients to build a relationship with their
GP, but also allows access to more specialised treatments, conveniently located
under the same roof, which patients can access at times convenient to them.
“Modern healthcare must adapt to the needs of the patient in today’s world, and
we welcome Lord Darzi’s forward-looking and innovative reforms that stand a
chance of bringing the best structure for delivery of medical services to NHS
patients too. We wish him and the NHS the best of luck.”
