Munich, Germany, February 1, 2006 - ibidi GmbH, a supplier
for solutions for BioMicroscopy, announced the extension of its partnership
with Applied BioPhysics, Inc. Under the terms of the agreement ibidi will
exclusively distribute the products of Applied Biophysics in Germany. With
this partnership ibidi further strengthens its position as a service provider
for system biology.

“The product lines of ibidi and Applied
BioPhysics complement each another excellently”, commented Dr. Ulf Rädler,
director of the sales division at ibidi. “Together with ibidi´s µ-Slides, the
user now can visualize a certain process using optical methods and also can
follow the same process in an impedance measurement”.
And Dr. Rädler adds: “The new and outstanding
product line of Applied Biophysics allows us to support our customers even
better”.
ECIS (Electric Cell-substrate
Impedance Sensing) is an electrical method to study, in real time, many of the
activities of animal cells when grown in tissue culture. These include
morphological changes, cell locomotion, and other behaviors directed by the
cell’s cytoskeleton. ECIS can be used in cell-based assays, such as
toxicological screenings or pharmacokinetics, and permits many possible
applications in the pharmaceutical industry.

ibidi® GmbH, Munich, Germany, develops, produces and distributes micro-Slides (µ- Slides), a “Lab-on-a-Slide®” technology for the analysis of cells and biomolecules. The µ-Slides represent a new family of flow through devices for the functional analysis of living cells. Currently, the µ-Slide product family comprises 8 different slide types for cell-culture and optical microscopy (high resolution, fluorescence, DIC) and protein-binding.
