    Diabetes: Potential In-Licensing & Out-Licensing R and D Asian Companies

    Diabetes: Potential In-Licensing & Out-Licensing R and D Asian Companies

Due to increased incidence and prevalence of diabetes in Asian countries, a significant number of Asian pharmaceutical companies are involved in development of new therapeutic compounds for the treatment of diabetes. On the other hand, the economic growth of Asia, particularly China and India, will enable better health care and treatment of their patients, meaning that biopharmaceutical and pharmaceutical markets are coming to a new age.

According to the the new data from the World Health Organization (WHO), there will be approximately 366 million patients diagnosed with diabetes in 2030, of which over 180 million in Asia. Including the number of people which have diabetes still not diagnosed, the quoted numbers may be almost doubled, with clear implication that market for anti-diabetic therapeutic products is increasing rapidly and will be enormous, particularly in Asia (Table 1).

This is one of the reasons that all major pharmaceutical companies are opening their business units and new manufacturing plants in Asia. At least nine European and USA pharmaceutical companies are involved in co-development of new anti-diabetes products with Asian companies, including F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG (Switzerland), a business unit of Roche Holding AG (Switzerland), GlaxoSmithKline plc (UK) and Johnson & Johnson (USA).

The new report from BioPolaris: Diabetes: Potential In-Licensing & Out-Licensing R & D Asian Companies features companies involved in development of new anti-diabetes products, features total of 36 companies, of which 19 are from Japan, 6 from South Korea, 5 from China, 5 from India and one from Taiwan.

Majority of them are looking to out-license or in-license R & D products for the treatment of diabetes.

Asian pharmaceutical companies are developing total of 55 new R & D compounds for the treatment of diabetes and diabetes complications.

Each company data include its name, address, phone and fax number, web site, public or private information and pipeline of R & D products for the treatment of diabetes.
