High-content Screening (HCS) is a focused term referring to the re-screening process-referred to sometimes as secondary screening-whereby the use of different types of assays enables a number of different parameters of a system to be assessed, in the presence of given lead compounds (in this manner, the effect of lead compounds on the biological system can be studied and those leads that display significant toxicity, for instance, can be eliminated early in the process-thereby enabling triage of the sub-optimal leads). This is the process of hit to lead triage and is a major segment of the HCS marketplace. In the present context, HCS refers to ensembles of measurements on cells and tissues, which taken together, enable a "more complete picture" of the lead compound, and therefore enables a more calculated approach to triage.

Overview

D&MD's High-Content Screening (HCS) and Analysis report is focused on an emerging and key segment of the life science tools and technology space-high content biology. High content biology has various ramifications in life science research, academic research, drug discovery, and development and in this report we focus on this emerging space, some of the major technologies and products in this space, and the market landscape through both a qualitative and quantitative analysis.

This report focuses on high-content and secondary screening. These disciplines are an outgrowth of high-throughput screening that commanded much attention and resources in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies over the past decade. Currently, the challenge has moved towards analyses of sub-cellular organization, morphology, and these are facets of HCS.

In addition to describing the technical aspects of high-content screening (HCS) in this report, we present a thorough market analysis complemented by primary data from a proprietary survey conducted on this topic by D&MD.
