Microarrays
Course Description:
The microarrays course describes the various chip fabrication techniques, image and data analysis, and the uses of microarrays for re-sequencing, expression studies and genotyping.
Instructors:
Dr. Raji Pillai received her B.A. in Biochemistry from Smith College, and in 1994, her Ph.D. in Biological Chemistry from UCLA. She started work in the microarray field during a post-doctoral fellowship in Dr.Patrick Brown's laboratory at Stanford University. She continues work in this area as a scientist in the biotechnology industry.
Dr. Jay Wohlgemuth received his B.Sc. from Harvard University, and his M.D. from Stanford University. He completed his medical residency at Washington University. He began working on microarrays in Dr. Tom Quertermous's laboratory at Stanford University, and is now a Principal scientist at BioCardia, a company focused on cardiovascular genomics.
Course Objectives:
> Explain the relevance of microarray technology in genomics.
> Describe how different kinds of microarrays are fabricated.
> Describe how microarray experiments are performed.
> Explain how microarrays are scanned, and how the fluorescent output is analyzed to generate quantitative data.
> Explain how bioinformatics is used in microarray data analysis.
> Understand how microarrays are currently used
