Abiraterone Acetate - Zytiga - Biotech, Pharma and Life Science Channel
On April 28, 2011, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Zytiga (abiraterone acetate), for use in combination with prednisone for the second-line treatment of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CPRC) following failed Taxotere (docetaxel) therapy. This comes after the approval of three molecules for the treatment of prostate cancer in 2010, Jevtana (cabazitaxel) from Sanofi-Aventis, Provenge (sipuleucel-T, a cancer vaccine) and Xgeva (denosumab). These were the first molecules to gain approval since Taxotere, an anti-mitotic chemotherapy, in 2006.
