Anxiety is caused by stress. It is a natural reaction, and is beneficial in helping us deal with tense situations and pressure. It is deterimental when is becomes an excessive, irrational dread of everyday situations.
The most common types of anxiety disorders are:

* Generalized Anxiety Disorder
* Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
* Panic Disorder
* Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
* Social Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorder)

Treatment of Anxiety disorders requires two approaches ;

Medication such as SSRIs, Tricyclics, MAOI's, beta-blockers and other types (benzodiazepines, Clonazepam and Buspirone) alleviate the physical symptoms.

The cure of these conditions requires Psychotherapy to uncover the cause of the anxiety and stragies to manage the symptoms. One example is Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) helps people change the thinking patterns that support their fears and the way they react to anxiety-provoking situations.
