Cervical Cancer - Biotech, Pharma and Life Science Channel
Cervical cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the cervix uteri or cervical area. Symptoms include vaginal bleeding, but may not present until later stages of the cancer. Cervical cancer can be treated using surgery (including local excision) in early stages or chemotherapy and radiotherapy if the disease has been caught later.
Screening for Cervical cancers uses Pap smears, which identify potentially precancerous changes. In developed countries, it is thought to have reduced the incidence of invasive cervical cancer by 50% or more.
The importance of Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in the development of almost all cases of cervical cancer has led to the development of HPV vaccines effective against the two strains of HPV that currently cause approximately 70% of cervical cancer.

Neck Dissection

SINGLE-PHOTON EMISSION-COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY is closely related to positron emission tomography, but uses isotopes with longer half-lives and resolution is lower.

In addition to characteristic FACIES and MICROCEPHALY, patients have a range of findings including RADIOSENSITIVITY, immunodeficiency, increased cancer risk, and growth retardation. Causative mutations occur in the NBS1 gene, located on human chromosome 8q21. NBS1 codes for nibrin, the key regulator protein of the R/M/N (RAD50/MRE11/NBS1) protein complex which senses and mediates cellular response to DNA DAMAGE caused by IONIZING RADIATION.
