Nexium is the 2nd most profitable drug in 2009, according to 2009 annual sales figures, where it generated just over $5m in sales for its company, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals.
Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor, acting to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach. Reducing the acid production reduces the symptoms and the risks of some diseases including gastric ulcers, GERD and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
