Personalized medicines are a new therapeutic option that takes into account the genetics and individuality of patients diseases, and then develops or prescribes drug that are likely to have the most benefit. At the moment, genetic testing for breast cancer for example determines which of a selection of chemotherapy agents are used. In the future, it is hoped that medicines can become increasingly personalized and therefore more effective, by targeting the particular biomolecular pathway or molecule that causes the disease.
