Plavix is a clot-busting drug, produced by Bristol-Myers Squibb Company, and reached annual sales in 2009 of $4.2m, making the third highest drug in the world (based on 2009 annual sales).

Prescriptions for Plavix are intended to lower a patients risk of cardiovascular disease or a cerebrovascular accident. It is taken by people who are already perceived at high risk of these problems, due to previous such events, smoking or other risk factors. These are sadly very common in Western populations, and might explain the high sales of this drug.
