Vitamin C - Biotech, Pharma and Life Science Channel

23:07 EDT 18th May 2013 | BioPortfolio

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that is necessary to form collagen; so is implicated in the synthesis of skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels, the healing of wounds, and for the repair and maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.

Vitamin C is also an antioxidant, thus helps reduce damage to cells and DNA, and may have a role in protecting against cancer.

All fruits and vegetables contain some amount of vitamin C, but citrus fruits are a very good source.  Because it is water-soluble, it is hard to build up toxic levels in the body. Deficiencies in the extreme cause scurvy.
