BioMatera was incorporated in May, 1998, in Quebec, Canada by its founder and current CEO, Ms. Sylvie Otis. The research and development activities began in the summer of 1999 with the collaboration of the Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI)/National Research Council (NRC).
Since then several biopolymer and fermentation specialists have joined BioMatera's team to continue the research and commercial development of novel competitive biomaterials. As one of the first companies specializing in the development of PHA type biopolymers, BioMatera has a competitive lead in this emerging sector and presently employs fourteen people.
