Trent Tube was established in 1941 in East Troy, WI by Frank Elge, a Swedish inventor. The company produced tubes for the Wisconsin dairy industry and drawn tubing for Parker Pen. When the U.S. went to war, the War Department asked Frank to expand his manufacturing capabilities to include welded tubing. Almost immediately, Trent Tube was making tubing for chemical plants, aircraft manifolds, refineries, munitions plants, and the Manhattan Project. After the war, Trent Tube continued to grow. In 1948, The Crucible Steel Company acquired Trent Tube and infused capital to allow for even more growth. In 1961, the Carrollton, Georgia plant was built to respond to the demand for large diameter pipe and tubing. The East Troy facility was also expanded. In 1968, Colt Industries acquired The Crucible Steel Company.
The 1970s was a period of extraordinary growth. Trent Tube built two new manufacturing plants, Trentweld and CWA (cold worked annealed), in East Troy. The company added new alloys, expanded its size range, and increased its drawing capabilities.
