Dr. Van Haeringen Laboratorium b.v Company Profile
Dr. van Haeringen Laboratorium B.V. (VHL), a company with 29 employees, was founded in January 1986 as a private, independent company. By implementing DNA technology in 1993 VHL experienced an exponential growth.
VHL has demonstrated its position as a service laboratory offering about 125 different routine animal DNA- and Blood-typing tests. VHL Customers come from all over the world, ranging from Europe, Australia, United States of America to the Middle East and Asia. Customers vary from individuals to large breeding organisations. Furthermore, VHL has worked in forensic cases.
Over the last years VHL has invested profoundly in Research and Development, quality control (ISO 9001 certification), automation and state of the art technology. Using the expertise acquired in animal genetic laboratory services VHL has recently entered other areas such as plant breeders right, human identification and bacterial community profiling and characterisation.
The R&D activities have lead to a patent in the USA, which was granted in November 2002 for Microbial Community Profiling and Characterisation (MCPC). Patent applications in other countries are still pending. A world-wide patent application has also been filed for Universal Variable Fragments (UVF), a novel technique for DNA fingerprinting that was recently developed by VHL.
On January 1st, 2003 VHL started Dr. Van Haeringen Polygen (VHP) in Belgium, a laboratory with five employees. The intellectual property (patent) is licensed through VHIP. Figure 1 shows the relations between the different companies.
