Nottingham, 23rd September 2005 – bioKneX,
the new bioscience knowledge exchange initiative for the East Midlands has
been established to enhance collaboration and partnering between the region’s
Universities, industry and education system, and to publicise bioscience
excellence in the region. The initiative has been established following the
award of funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (hefce)
to Nottingham Trent University, the University of Nottingham and the
University of Leicester with further funding from the East Midlands
Development Agency.
Steve Beasley, CEO of bioKneX, commented, ‘The East
Midlands offers world-class research and a great opportunity for its
commercialisation. bioKneX will facilitate this commercialisation through
effective knowledge exchange, collaborations, partnerships and helping to
identify investment opportunities within the Region and beyond. This
initiative will bring together researchers, commerce, investors and suppliers
to augment the growth of biotech and biomedical competence in the region.’
The official launch of bioKneX will be held at BioCity
Nottingham on 25th October 2005 and will attract leading scientists from the
region, business leaders, investors and suppliers. The event will include
talks from Peter Jones, Pro-Vice Chancellor for research and business at
Nottingham Trent University and Steve Beasley, CEO of bioKneX.
