Capsulution NanoScience AG Another Development Co-operation with a Global Player

Berlin/Eberbach (October 30, 2002) - The Berlin-based nano-biotech company Capsulution NanoScience AG and the Deutsche Gelatine-Fabriken Stoess AG, Eberbach, seat of the GELITA Group, have recently signed a co-operation agreement. Object of the agreement is the joint development of novel nano- and micro-capsules based on Capsulution's proprietary Layer-by-Layer Technology (LBL) using certain alkali and acidic GELITA® special gelatines. The research is aimed at the creation of optimised capsules that could act as made-to-function carrier systems for pharmaceutical and active compounds. Since the beginning of Capsulution's research and development activities in June 2001 the agreement reached represents yet another co-operation with a multi-national corporation. Dr. Karsten Cremer, CEO of Capsulution, commented the signed agreement very optimistically: "Based on Capsulution's broad expertise in the area of nano-encapsulation and thanks to GELITA's many year's experience in the development and manufacture of gelatine we are in a unique position to develop novel delivery systems for an effective, targeted and patient-friendly medicinal therapy."

To meet the constantly rising customer demands GELITA increasingly develops innovative gelatine products and derivates that also fulfil the special requirements set for drug delivery applications.

About Capsulution NanoScience AG:
Capsulution NanoScience develops innovative drug delivery systems for the simple, efficient and safe delivery of pharmaceutically active compounds. The company applies the so-called LBL-Technology® to build-up the walls of nano and micro-capsules in a layer-by-layer fashion. Based on their minute size, their functionality and their highly reproducible production process the capsules can be used for a multitude of different applications. Accordingly, the precisely sized capsules (100 nm to 100 µm) can be made to function in a manner to suit the intended application, and can be given the appropriate biochemical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties as required by the customer. The capsules are already applied for the delivery of drugs, in cosmetic products, in diagnostics, and for crop protection. Today, the Berlin-based company has 17 employees. In 2001 Capsulution successfully completed its first round of financing raising around three million Euro. Investors in the company include venture capital companies like Berlin Seed Capital Fund (BSCF) and tbg, the Technologiebeteiligungsgesellschaft (Technology Equity Company) of the Deutsche Ausgleichsbank. Capsulution has already entered into several co-operation agreements with industrial corporations, including one with Bayer AG in December 2001.
