Catachem Introduces the Total Bile Acids (TBA) In-Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Chemistry Reagent Kit Bridgeport,
Connecticut, USA (November 28, 2003)…. Catachem, Inc. (Catachem, Private)
today announced the addition of the Total Bile Acids (TBA) in vitro diagnostic
chemistry reagent kit to Catachem’s product line of over 30 chemistries and
more than 100 products. Total
bile acids are metabolized in the liver and hence serve as a marker for normal
liver function. Serum total bile acids are increased in patients with acute
hepatitis, chronic hepatitis, liver sclerosis and liver cancer. TBA
is measured in the presence of Thio-NAD, the enzyme 3-a hydroxysteroid
dehydrogenase (3-a HSD) which converts bile acids to 3-keto steroids and
Thio-NADH. The reaction is reversible and 3-a HSD can convert 3-keto steroids
and Thio-NADH to bile acids and Thio-NAD. In the presence of excess NADH, the
enzyme cycling occurs efficiently and the rate of formation of Thio-NADH is
determined by measuring specific change of absorbance at 405 nm.
TBA is
a two reagent chemistry available in one size. Reagents are packaged
ready-to-use in plastic wedge bottles. Calibrator and controls are available
separately. TBA Kit PN CC042A performs 440 tests and TBA Control PN CC042A-C1 is
1 mL. Benjamin
Twombly, Vice President Sales and Marketing, commented, “We currently have an
extremely popular Bile Acids assay and the addition of this new Total Bile Acids
assay to our Liver Panel will provide more comprehensive services for our
customers.” Luis P. Leon,
President, commented, “We are pleased to add this assay to our growing product
line.” About
