Congressman Fattah Supports Legislation to Address More Funds for Pancreatic Cancer Research

Friday 6th of November 2009 14:32

Congressman Fattah releases the following statement in observance of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- "Pancreatic cancer is a rare and perplexing disease, yet it is the fourth leading cause of death by cancer in the United States. This year, more than 42,000 Americans will be diagnosed with the disease and more than 35,000 will die from it. That number is far too high.

"To find a cure for pancreatic cancer researchers have to know more about this disease. That is why I am lending my full support to H.R. 7045, The Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act. The legislation is the first of its kind to call for a significant infusion of funds for research and education concerning this killer cancer.

"I join the millions of American families affected by pancreatic cancer as well as our finest medical researchers in their journey to learn more about the disease with the hope that knowledge will ultimately lead to a cure.

"My family knows personally the devastation pancreatic cancer causes as it robbed my father-in-law, Elmer Chenault, of his life just over a year ago. My wife, Renee Chenault-Fattah, will join thousands from around the country as they walk in observance of Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month knowing that each step gets us closer to finding a cure."
