Leading biomedical research center standardises genome sequencing operations on Genetix QPix2XT

Genetix Ltd. (Mew Milton, UK) announces today that the Broad Institute (Cambridge, MA, USA), a world leading biomedical research centre, has chosen the Genetix QPix2XT – a high specification colony picking system – for the standardisation of its genome sequencing operations. Building on their experience with Genetix QBot systems, the Institute now owns nine Genetix QPix2XT instruments. These new picking platforms have been installed and are now productive within the sequencing laboratory, contributing reliably to the daily workflow.

George Hutchinson, Marketing Manager, Picking and Placing at Genetix said: “We are pleased to be supporting one of the most productive sequencing operations in the world. Integrating our systems into an environment that has a current performance of 220K sequencing reads per day is a true test of the performance of our technology.”

The Genetix QPix2XT was chosen for its ability to deliver a reliability and performance consistent with the Institute’s workflow needs and practices. The decision was also based on Genetix long-term track record, having provided six years of service, support and collaboration to researchers now based at Broad.

About Genetix and the QPix2XT:
Genetix Limited provides automated systems for cell biology, and proteomic and genomic research. It supplies many leading academic institutions world-wide and major international companies involved in the drug discovery process including GSK, AstraZeneca and Novartis.

Genetix made a significant contribution to the Human Genome Project by supplying high-throughput equipment to seven of the leading eight laboratories of the consortium. Genetix, through its R&D expertise and scientific resource, is committed to the continual development of innovative solutions to accelerate the rate of global scientific discovery.

Genetix is quoted on the London Stock Exchange (symbol GTX) and is based in New Milton, Hampshire, UK.

The QPix2XT instrument is a high-speed colony picking robot for use with microbial colonies and phage. Kits for QPix2XT applications include: picking, streaking, re-arraying, interaction studies, regional picking, replicating and gridding. Colonies can now be picked directly into buffer, denatured, and amplified using the TempliPhi™ system. This eliminates the need to grow the picked colonies prior to sequencing as well as all the processes and costs involved in DNA purification. A unique halogen sterilisation system prevents carryover of DNA.
