PRODUCERS OF DRUG DISCOVERY TECHNOLOGY® WORLD CONGRESS ANNOUNCE 2nd ANNUAL ASIA PACIFIC EVENT

Westborough, MA, July 13, 2004 – IBC Life Sciences has announced its second annual Asia-Pacific event in the Drug Discovery Technology® Series.  Drug Discovery to Manufacturing: Global Partnering & New Science will be held October 18-20, 2004 at the Renaissance Mumbai Hotel and Convention Center in Mumbai (Bombay), India.  

This international event recognizes the explosive growth of biomedical sciences in Asia-Pacific and has been designed to foster Pan-Asian scientific exchange among academic, government and industry research groups.  It also provides a forum for biomedical companies from U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific to come together to discuss scientific advances, business strategies and partnerships.

Over 50 speakers from 13 countries will present at this year’s event.  In addition, there will be three keynote presentations:

  • Charles Cooney, Ph.D., Professor, Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, “New Directions in Process Analytical Technology for Biologics Manufacturing”
  • Dr. R.A. Mashelkar, Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India

“Emerging Role of Innovative Developing Countries in Drugs Research, Development & Manufacturing”

  • Lars Walan, Vice President, Global Drug Development, Emerging Markets, AstraZeneca, Sweden, “R&D Investments in Asia - Reflections from Experiences in India and China”

The agenda includes a one day Partnering and Business Summit and includes two parallel tracks: Drug Discovery and Development & Manufacturing Drugs and Biologics.

The Drug Discovery and Development track will feature presentations from companies whose innovations in drug discovery are leading to clinical products and a better understanding of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.  The Manufacturing Drugs and Biologics track features updates on biologics  manufacturing, regulatory procedures, outsourcing and tech transfer, as well as small molecule process chemistry.
