ICENI Seedcord Fund LLP invests £200k in
Immunoporation Ltd
06 October 2003,
Immunoporation Ltd a spin out from the University of Essex has been created to commercially exploit its unique portfolio of technologies for moving DNA and other potentially therapeutic molecules efficiently into human cells for a diverse range of applications from Gene therapy to Cancer Research.
The technology has received peer review praise for its future potential with articles published in the scientific journal 'Nature' and a SMART feasibility award. One of its patented technologies has already been out licensed for development within the Plant and Microbial markets.
Tom Hole, MD at Immunoporation, said 'the company has an exciting opportunity to develop its products successfully into most of the Life Science markets where existing technologies have real limitations. The Funding from Iceni will provide an important platform to expand its operation into a commercial entity capable of penetrating these highly profitable markets.'
Bill Huston, an Iceni Investment Executive member, explained 'the combined benefit of having significant technical advances linked to a short time to market, made Immunoporation an attractive investment to
Iceni, this university spin-out represents our goal of supporting projects and companies capable of moving academic ideas and inventions into viable and successful businesses'.
Immunoporation has offices and laboratories based in Maidstone and Colchester, and has two core and unique patented Transfection technologies, Immunoporation and Aeroporation currently under development. It is envisaged that the company will exploit these technologies through its own branded product ranges, as well as exploring private label, licensing and other Joint Venturing agreements, to maximise the opportunities within each of the market sectors for Medical Research, Gene Therapy, Cell Engineering, Target and Drug Discovery, Plant and Fungal transformation.
