AGBIOS is excited to announce the release of Edition 2 of our highly acclaimed CD-ROM publication, Essential Biosafety.

OTTAWA – AGBIOS is excited to announce the release of Edition 2 of our highly acclaimed CD-ROM publication, Essential Biosafety.
A common feature of the current debate on genetically modified (GM) crops and foods is the lack of transparent and readily accessible information, which complicates the public assessment of potential risks and benefits. Essential Biosafety has been designed to specifically address this insufficiency in three key areas. It provides factual safety and regulatory information on approved GM commodities; risk assessment training and policy analyses relevant to the design and implementation of biosafety systems; and a comprehensive compilation of citations relevant to environmental and human food safety.
Essential Biosafety Edition 2 is a must-have resource for biosafety policymakers and regulators, educators and professionals working in the field of agricultural biotechnology, and students and others interested in exploring these topical issues. In the tradition of the first edition, which had a circulation of more than 12,000 copies in 102 countries, the distribution of Essential Biosafety on CD-ROM remains a non-profit initiative aimed at meeting the needs of individuals with limited Internet access.
To request your FREE copy of Essential Biosafety please complete the online form available at http://www.essentialbiosafety.info  or contact us by electronic mail to info@agbios.com  or by telephone at + 613.269.7966.

New Features of Essential Biosafety Include:

  • A New User Interface with simple user-friendly navigation and rejuvenated colourful graphics make Essential Biosafety even easier to use.

  • An Updated Crop Database with access to the latest regulatory decisions, including relevant legislation and guidelines, for approved GM crops and foods. For each product, there is detailed information about the method of production and the studies that were conducted to address potential environmental and human food safety risks.

  • A Searchable Library replete with over 1,400 citations in key topic areas, such as: environmental risk assessment, food safety, livestock feed safety, intellectual property, labelling and traceability, regulation, cost-benefit, foreseeable science, and consumer acceptance. In many cases, these have been supplemented with abstracts or full texts of articles.

  • A Capacity Building section with information, training, and decision support tools to assist in the design and implementation of biosafety systems, including:
    • Risk assessment training case studies illustrating internationally accepted best practices in the environmental and food safety assessment of GM crops and foods.
    • Country studies with descriptions of existing biosafety regulatory systems.
    • Guidance documents on policy options relevant to the design and implementation of biosafety systems.
    • Biosafety communications materials that inform on the risks and benefits of GM crops and food products.
