OMA Reports a 2.0% Increase in May 2012 Passenger Traffic
MONTERREY, Mexico, June 7, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V., known as OMA (Nasdaq:OMAB) (BMV:OMA), reports that terminal passenger traffic at its 13 airports increased 2.0% in May 2012, as compared to May 2011. Domestic traffic increased 2.4%, and international traffic decreased 0.5%. Traffic volumes have increased for nine months in a row, starting in September 2011, as the air transport industry in Mexico continues to recover
Of total May traffic, 97.1% was commercial aviation and 2.9% was general aviation.

Domestic traffic increased in six airports in May, with the most noteworthy increases in Monterrey (+3.9%), Culiacán (+11.3%), Reynosa (+19.5%), and Acapulco (+8.4%). In Monterrey, traffic increased principally on the routes to Mexico City and Cancún. Culiacán traffic increased on the Tijuana and Guadalajara routes. The Reynosa and Acapulco airports increased traffic on the Mexico City routes. The most significant reduction was at the Zihuatanejo airport (-15.1%), as a result of reductions in traffic on the routes to Toluca and Mexico City.
International traffic increased most significantly in Monterrey (+5.2%), San Luis Potosí (+40.5%), and Torreón (+26.1%). In Monterrey, traffic benefited from the increase in passengers on the routes to San Antonio, Dallas, Las Vegas, and Panama. San Luis Potosi traffic increased on the Houston route, while Torreón traffic increased on the Dallas route. The largest decreases were recorded in Mazatlán (-36.8%) and Acapulco (-28.9%). Mazatlán traffic was affected by reductions on the Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Calgary routes. Acapulco was affected by lower traffic on the Houston route.
The total number of flight operations (takeoffs and landings) in May 2012 decreased 0.6% as compared to the prior year period. Domestic flights decreased 1.6%, and international flights increased 6.8%.
