Pfizer is in a deal to acquire NextWave - comment from the Economist Intelligence Unit

Pfizer has long been keen to expand its product range in order to offset the effect of patent expiries on key drugs such as Lipitor. One interesting aspect of this acquisition, though, is that it shows how in highly competitive markets like the ADHD one, companies are increasingly differentiating their drugs by means of their delivery technology - particularly useful when most patients are children, as they are for ADHD. But Pfizer has generally been content to invest in delivery technologies through alliances and licences, such as last year's deal with Antares, while it focuses its in-house efforts on commercialising the resulting products
