TriWest Healthcare Alliance Announces 1 Millionth Veteran to be Appointed in August for Community Care Through Its Health Care Provider Network

11:42 EDT 2 Aug 2017 | PR Newswire

PHOENIX, Aug. 2, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TriWest Healthcare Alliance, headquartered in Phoenix, Ariz. announced the company this month will schedule the 1 millionth unique veteran for VA community-based health care services through its network of nearly 200,000 community health care providers since January 2014.

TriWest partners with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to administer the Veterans Choice Program and VA Patient-Centered Community Care. The 1 millionth veteran served marks the fact that  25 percent of total veterans eligible for community care in TriWest's 28 state region have made use of this program in support of VA's sacred mission of serving our nation's Veterans. TriWest's provider network has now supported a total of 5 million initial and follow-up appointments, providing enhanced access to timely and convenient quality care for those one million veterans.

"Partnering with VA and community health care providers to serve one million Veterans means that one quarter of all eligible Veterans have benefited from community health care in the territories in which we are privileged to support VA in meeting its mission of providing for the health care needs of our nation's heroes," said Dave McIntyre, president and CEO of TriWest Healthcare Alliance. "With the creation of the Choice Program, Congress and VA have seen to it that Veterans are able to receive needed care within 30 days or closer to home when they live more than 40 miles from a VA facility. That commitment was reinforced this week in Congress's action to add more than $2.1 billion to this program to meet the demand, as well as providing VA with necessary funds for facility leases and staffing so VA can enhance access to care in its own environment. We count it a privilege to support VA in this work, and thank the community providers who continue to lean forward at our side in the effort to increase Veterans' access to quality care, closer to home, while supporting and strengthening the VA core health system."

TriWest serves Veterans with 10 operations centers and a provider network of nearly 200,000 providers of all specialties, to include 25,000 behavioral health providers. Across all categories of care, the average number of days for a Veteran to make an appointment with a TriWest health care provider is three days. The average number of days to the first completed appointment is 13 days.

McIntyre attributes this milestone to the unwavering support of the quality network of health care providers who continually stand up and answer the call to serve those who have served, and the company's dedicated employees and non-profit health plans and university health systems who created this company more than 22 years ago to support government in serving those who serve. "We could not be successful at this important work without our community care providers who are committed to ensuring our nation's veterans receive the care they have earned, and rightfully deserve," said McIntyre.
