08:40 EDT 3 Aug 2017 | PR Newswire

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Mission has elected two new members, Lloyd F. Mencinger and Tom Turpin.  Mencinger and Turpin replace retiring board members Dr. Henry Cloud and Reverend Neva Lema

"We are excited to introduce two new members to the work of the Los Angeles Mission Board," said Herb Smith, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Mission.  "Lloyd Mencinger comes from the medical device industry.  He brings a unique understanding of business which should prove invaluable to the Mission.  Tom Turpin is in the financial sector, and has previously served with distinction on both corporate and nonprofit boards.  We hope to tap into his vast experience with board governance."

Mencinger has more than 25 years' experience in the medical device area in sales and management.  He has also worked extensively overseas.  Currently, he serves as President and CEO of Aqua Medical Incorporated.  The company is in the early stages of developing a treatment platform for treating pre-cancerous conditions of the gastro-intestinal tract.  He holds an MBA cum laude from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering cum laude from California State University of Long Beach.

Turpin is the Managing Partner of Riverbrook Capital, an investment banking firm he founded in 2011 in Los Angeles.  His experience includes corporate finance as well as the entertainment industry.  He currently serves on the personnel committee of Bel Air Church, and on the boards of three for-profit organizations and three nonprofits, Cloud & Fire Ministries, Cantinas Foundation and C5LA.  He has a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Both Mencinger and Turpin will complete three-year terms on the board.

"The Los Angeles Mission is deeply indebted to Rev. Lema and Dr. Cloud for their invaluable service to the Board.  We look forward to working with them in their emeritus positions with the board," Smith said.  Rev. Ron Brown has also completed his term and is leaving the board at this time, but his replacement has not been named yet.  He will also continue to serve in an emeritus position.

For more than 80 years, the Los Angeles Mission has served the needy of Skid Row, providing emergency services such as shelter, food, clothing, as well as professional medical and dental services.  In addition, the Los Angeles Mission offers long-term residential rehabilitation programs including education, job training and placement, transitional housing and counseling.
