Signature Event Celebrates Regional Accomplishments of Women in Bioscience

Virginia Bio, the statewide non-profit association representing the life science industry in the Commonwealth of Virginia, will host the second annual Women Building Bio: The XX Factor conference. The conference, which will be held on September 26 at the Inova Center for Personalized Health, is focused on recognizing and learning from leading women in the bioscience industry who are pioneering the path to success.

Women Building Bio: The XX Factor will converge diverse networks from industry and academia across the region including researchers and innovators, professionals and students, and thought leaders and decision-makers. This day-long conference provides opportunities to exchange new ideas, highlight areas of bioscience and research breakthroughs, and find partners for future collaboration.

“We are proud to host the second annual Women Building Bio conference, which celebrates and recognizes key bioscience leaders across the region,” said Jennifer Sicilian, Vice President, Government Relations, Inova Health System. “We look forward to showcasing important, women-led initiatives that align with our mission at Inova.”

“This conference will catalyze the formation of lasting networks of support, resources and inspiration for women in the bio and health science and engineering community,” said Deborah Crawford, Vice President Research, George Mason University.

The speakers and panelists for the event include forty notable leaders from the BioHealth Capital Region of Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia, that are carving lasting legacies in the industry. This year’s keynote speaker is Alexandra Reeve Givens, director of the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation and executive director of the Institute for Technology Policy at Georgetown Law. The program includes Peggy Agouris, Dean, College of Science, George Mason University; Barbara Boyan, Dean, School of Engineering, Virginia Commonwealth University; Senator Janet Howell, Virginia General Assembly; Crystal Icenhour, CEO, Aperiomics, Chairman of the Board, Virginia Bio and Carrie Roth, CEO, Virginia Bio+Tech Park, Executive Committee, Virginia Bio.
