DOW PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES ACQUIRES BIOSKIN,
EUROPE’S LEADING DERMATOLOGY CRO
Jan 4, 2005.
Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences, specialists in the development of topical
products, today announced the acquisition of Bioskin, Europe’s leading
dermatology CRO, with facilities in Hamburg and Berlin, Germany.
Bioskin, a complete dermatology CRO, provides a full range of clinical services
in Europe, including regulatory consulting, clinical trials and data management.
Rapid recruitment of dermatology patients and recruitment of difficult to find
(naïve) patients in both Eastern and Western Europe are Bioskin strengths, as is
their ability to offer unique proof-of-concept efficacy models and
bioengineering methods to quickly measure a drug’s activity.
“We are excited about the Bioskin acquisition because it enables Dow to offer
clients a wider range of dermatology proof-of-concept and clinical support
services” said Bhaskar Chaudhuri, Ph.D., President and CEO of Dow Pharmaceutical
Sciences. “Bioskin and Dow both are “unique in dermatology,” and both are
leaders in this niche in our respective geographical areas. Now combined, with
facilities on both sides of the Atlantic, we can help clients develop, test and
register dermatology products on a global basis” added Dr. Chaudhuri.
Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences has been helping clients develop optimized,
pharmaceutically elegant and stable dermatological products since 1977. Dow also
provides early stage consulting to help clients craft regulatory and clinical
strategies in the USA. They also plan and manage non-clinical and clinical
trials, and have two dermatology clinical sites in California. In 2004,
Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences filed three electronic New Drug Applications with
the United States Food and Drug Administration.
“Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences has unique expertise in developing topical
formulations and in helping clients understand FDA requirements for dermatology
products. “I’m very excited because we now can offer our European clients
formulation development services, as well as a pathway for approval of their
products in the United States. The synergies that result from Bioskin merging
with Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences will help clients on both sides of the
Atlantic” said Johannes Gassmueller, M.D., CEO and Managing Director of Bioskin.
Bioskin has 35 employees and is headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. It serves
customers throughout Europe and North America. Dr. Gassmueller will remain the
Managing Director of Bioskin.
Dow Pharmaceutical Sciences has 140 employees in four Northern California
locations. Customers include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in the
United States, Canada and Europe.
