GENOVAC's Technology Tested and Approved by CuraGen

Freiburg (January 29, 2003) - "We are proud to announce that our genetic immunisation technology has been tested and approved by CuraGen", says Dr. John Thompson, CBO of GENOVAC. This was achieved through a proof-of-principle test by the CuraGen Corporation. The objective was to generate polyclonal antibodies against 10 chosen target proteins using GENOVAC's technology. These targets were specially chosen to represent various degrees of difficulty for antibody generation. By combining their in-house screening technology and by delivering high quality antibodies against 9 of the 10 targets within only 10 weeks (8 were delivered after 8 weeks) GENOVAC convinced CuraGen that their technology is both reliable and quick in generating tested, high-quality antisera against a whole range of targets.

This working relationship between both companies has now been extended towards the generation of monoclonal antibodies against chosen targets which can be used for research or even further in the fields of diagnostics and possibly therapy. As part of this non-exclusive alliance, GENOVAC will produce monoclonal antibodies against CuraGen's chosen targets in a five year contract.

Based on its experience, GENOVAC is also open to collaborative product development in the context of strategic alliances with other partners from the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries. Contract antibody production gives drug-development companies, like CuraGen, access to the skills and technical expertise of specialised service companies, which are using state-of-the-art technology for the generation of high-quality antibodies.

About GENOVAC AG:
GENOVAC AG is a young biotechnology company that was founded in 1999. The company idea is based on its award winning technology that has already established GENOVAC as a world leader in the rapid generation of highest quality antibodies through genetic immunisation. The company has developed and patented a unique screening system that provides identification of antibodies against most native proteins, without having to isolate these proteins. This allows for the first time, both the screening and cloning of monoclonal antibodies following genetic immunisation. GENOVAC's technology is especially interesting for developing clinically relevant, high quality antibodies against chosen target proteins in a short time period. In this case, well characterised monoclonal antibodies with high specificity and high binding affinity are needed. Genetic immunisation fulfils these properties. GENOVAC is headquartered in Freiburg, Germany.
