Scientists & Industry experts look to the future in the post-genome era

-  Manchester, UK, 1-3 September, 2004 -
Conference ‘Genome to Systems’

Be part of the post-genome science community and join the 2nd Conference of the Consortium for Post-Genome Science, to be held in Manchester, UK, 1-3rd September, 2004. The Conference brings together over 500 researchers, biotech and pharmaceutical executives, technology transfer and service providers working in the field of post-genome science and technology. This year’s event will take place at the impressive International Convention Centre and focuses on post-genomic technologies and their impact on scientific, healthcare and ethical issues. Further information and online registration can be found at www.postgenomeconsortium.com/conference_2004 .

The plenary lectures and sessions cover a wide range of themes in genomics, biosensor technologies, systems biology, bioinformatics, proteomics, protein dynamics and pharmacogenetics. Join internationally-renowned experts including Tom Blundell (Cambridge), Ruedi Aebersold (Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle), Stuart Kim (Stanford, winner of the 2004 Ho-Am Prize in Medicine), Stephen Oliver (Manchester), Laslo Barabasi (Notre Dame, Indiana) and others to learn about the many exciting research achievements and new opportunities in the post-genome era.

Highlights include the talk of Nobel laureate Robert Huber from the MPI for Biochemistry (Martinsried) entitled ‘Protein degradation by molecular machines’, as well as the network dinner taking place in the grandeur of Manchester’s Town Hall.

Scientists also have the opportunity to meet up to 80 of the industry’s leading genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics suppliers, together with general laboratory equipment and consumables suppliers. In addition the Conference features showcase sessions providing an ideal forum for scientists to meet up to 24 of the industry’s developing organisations to promote their exciting new research and technology.

Notes to Editors:

The Consortium for Post Genome Science

The Consortium was established in 2001 as a cross-institutional initiative designed to accelerate developments in post-genome science and technology for the benefit of scientists, clinicians and companies.

Its members are carrying out four core programmes of research, each focusing on different, but complementary strategic research areas:

·         The Centre for BioArray Innovation

·         Microfluidic Analytical and Screening Technology Centre

·         Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research

·         3rd Generation Genomics
