There are currently more than 130 therapeutic products in development in the United States to treat asthma and respiratory allergies, but those making it to launch will have a difficult time penetrating the marketplace. Currently available products have good efficacy and safety profiles with high levels of prescriber confidence. Payers are also comfortable with current products and will be wary of new ones that don't address an unmet therapeutic need.

However, prescribers and payers alike recognize the need for products that improve patient compliance with asthma treatment. QualityMetric, with over three decades of experience in the development of precise and scientifically validated generic and disease-specific PRO surveys, offers a complete suite of asthma measurement tools sensitive to both “impact” and “control”. Integrating the patient’s voice in the measurement of their health is widely recognized as an effective compliance strategy and can also be counted on:

In product development and launch phases to:

  • Raise public awareness of asthma
  • Prove the therapeutic efficacy of a particular product beyond traditional clinical endpoints
  • Facilitate timely regulatory approval for new asthma products
  • Substantiate product marketing and label claims
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of one asthma product over another with scientifically valid measurement

And in clinical treatment to:

  • Identify those in need of treatment
  • Measure the burden(impact) of asthma on patients and populations
  • Monitor the effectiveness of asthma treatment, comparing data results with standardized norms and benchmarks
  • Provide clinically meaningful interpretation of the results

The Best of Both Measurement Worlds: Why Use Generic and Disease-specific PRO Surveys

A QualityMetric generic health survey (SF-36®, SF-36v2™, SF-12®, SF-12v2™, and SF-8™ Health Surveys), in combination with a disease-specific measure, provides a more broadly defined picture of a patient’s overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and offers the ability to compare data results with general and disease specific population norms. More than 7,000 articles in over 1,100 international journals cite use of the SF™ Generic Health Surveys involving research in 64 diseases and conditions.
