Gainers
SkyePharma has had a busy couple of months; Michael Aston has been
appointed chief executive, Novartis Pharma injected £6m through a collaborative agreement
to jointly develop a new formulation of Foradil®, an asthma treatment, and the Company
signed a definitive agreement with DepoTech (US) under which SkyePharma will acquire all
outstanding shares in a stock for stock exchange.Stanford Rook's ("SR")
operating group now renamed SR Pharma signed an exclusive licence agreement with Corixa
(US) that allows Corixa to exploit a new immunotherapeutic product for the treatment of
psoriasis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. The Company also
strengthened its intellectual property portfolio by concluding an agreement with
University College London for the assignment of SRL172 patents to SR.
Quadrant Healthcare's ("QH") litigation judgement has been given in QH's
favour; its amended UK patent is valid and the Company is not liable for any damages.
Decliners
Scotia's share price fell on news that Boehringer Ingelheim had terminated
its development deal for Scotia's photodynamic agent, Foscan (temoporfin), for the
treatment of cancer. Scotia plans to continue development and says that the decision will
cause a short delay in the development programme.
Cortec's internal review indicated that two of the three lead programmes
(Macrotonin and Pseudostat) are not as advanced as has previously been
indicated. The Company is to commission a commercial and technical review of the Company's
scientific programmes by an independent consultancy.
