Analysis of European Physicians Online Introduction The purpose of this presentation is to deliver the exclusive findings from Datamonitor’s 2002 European Physician Insight Surveys. Each survey is used to profile physicians in Europe that use the Internet for work-related purposes, highlighting their online information requirements. This presentation also reveals the differences in Internet usage patterns between primary care physicians (PCPs) and specialists. Scope The Q1 survey consisted of interviews with PCPs and psychiatrists in France and Germany. 30 interviews were conducted in each market. The Q2 survey consisted of interviews with PCPs and cardiologists in Spain. 30 interviews were conducted in total. The Q3 survey consisted of interviews with PCPs and oncologists in the UK and Italy. 30 interviews were conducted in each market. The Q4 survey consisted of interviews with PCPs in the UK and Germany. 30 interviews were conducted in each market. Report Highlights Over 70 per cent of surveyed EU physicians use the Internet for work-related purposes. Companies that successfully align their online services to meet physicians’ unmet needs will achieve greater market uptake in Europe. Patients with Internet access in Germany and the UK are interested in accessing information online about both life-threatening diseases and lifestyle diseases. Also, UK specialists feel that their patients are more proactive in seeking healthcare as a result of patient Internet use. The majority of surveyed physicians in the UK and Italy support some form of eDetailing service by pharmaceutical companies. Furthermore, 80 per cent of surveyed French physicians do not encourage their patients to use either disease management or compliance tools.
