Based on a 34-question survey, Bioassays is the fourth of six titles in the series, The Tools & Techniques of Drug Discovery, and specifically provides valuable insight into the two major types of bioassays employed in drug discovery. One of the present bottlenecks in drug discovery is in efficiently identifying drug targets for additional research. By employing bioassays in automated format, the characterization of a large number of drug targets can be streamlined. The objective of this report is to review the applications and use of in vitro protein assays and cell-based assays as well as the limitations researchers have experienced while using them. The needs of the pharmaceutical industry continue to evolve over time and have resulted in considerable changes in the field's scientific approaches to drug discovery. Advances in bioassays and related instrumentation, as detailed by the research community in Bioassays, will provide the means necessary to address these evolving needs. The major objectives of this report are as follows: > Examine the use and applications of cell-based and in vitro protein assays > Determine the features of these assays that are influential in purchasing decisions > Identify the preferred suppliers of bioassay reagents and kits > Establish the parameters for quality in cell-based and in vitro protein assays > Understand -- from the user's perspective -- the level of satisfaction with current products and any unmet needs in the area of bioassays Date: May 2002 Format: Hard Copy & PDF Email Pages: 130 Category: Drug Discovery Publisher: BioInformatics To order go to this URL: http://www.bioportfolio.com/cgi-bin/acatalog/copy_of_bioinformatics_1.html#a516 |
