Based on a 29-question survey, Bioinformatics is the second of six titles in the series, The Tools & Techniques of Drug Discovery, and specifically focuses on bioinformatics -- the science of organizing and analyzing complex biological data. Bioinformatics has proven indispensable for applying genomic technologies to drug discovery and development. Today, pharmaceutical and life sciences companies are placing increasing emphasis on bioinformatics investments in order to gain a competitive advantage in the drug discovery process. To secure this investment, an assessment of how computational tools and techniques are being employed in the laboratory is absolutely vital. The objective of this report is to provide feedback from researchers regarding the integral role bioinformatics plays in genomics-based drug discovery. The information in Bioinformatics will offer insights into the software and hardware needs of drug discovery researchers and provide suggestions as to how the collection, storage, cataloging, analysis and sharing of massive amounts of data can be improved. The major objectives of this report are as follows: > Examine the use and applications of bioinformatics hardware and software > Determine the features that are influential in purchasing one bioinformatics system over another > Identify the preferred suppliers of hardware, software and services > Establish the parameters for quality in bioinformatics tools > Understand-from the user's perspective-the level of satisfaction with current products and any unmet needs in the area of bioinformatics Date: May 2002 Format: Hard Copy & PDF Email Pages: 123 Category: Drug Discovery Publisher: BioInformatics To order go to this URL: http://www.bioportfolio.com/cgi-bin/acatalog/copy_of_bioinformatics_1.html#a512 |
