Evaluation of melatonin on the precocious puberty: a pilot study.
Summary of "Evaluation of melatonin on the precocious puberty: a pilot study."
Objective. To evaluate the effect of 6-sulphatoxymelatonin on the sleep quality of girls with precocious puberty. Study design. Ninety-nine girls were divided into three groups: GI, precocious puberty; GII, normal prepubescent; GIII, normal puberty. Questionnaires containing demographic and clinical data were applied. Blood was collected for hormonal evaluation for 6-sulphatoxymelatonin. The modified Rush Sleep Diary was used. Results. The levels of 6-sulphatoxymelatonin were highest in the group without pubertal development (75.23 +/- 10.84 ng/ml), second highest in the group with normal puberty (45.66 +/- 3.87 ng/ml, p < 0.001) and lowest in the group with true precocious puberty (37.04 +/- 5.47 ng/ml). The amount of day sleep was greater in the group without pubertal development compared to other groups. Conclusion. Despite the sleep data, melatonin may be involved in the precocious puberty process.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Small-scale tests of methods and procedures to be used on a larger scale if the pilot study demonstrates that these methods and procedures can work.
A biogenic amine that is found in animals and plants. In mammals, melatonin is produced by the PINEAL GLAND. Its secretion increases in darkness and decreases during exposure to light. Melatonin is implicated in the regulation of SLEEP, mood, and REPRODUCTION. Melatonin is also an effective antioxidant.
Development of SEXUAL MATURATION in boys and girls at a chronological age that is 2.5 standard deviations below the mean age at onset of PUBERTY in the population. This early maturation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis results in sexual precocity, elevated serum levels of GONADOTROPINS and GONADAL STEROID HORMONES such as ESTRADIOL and TESTOSTERONE.
A family of G-protein-coupled receptors that are specific for and mediate the effects of MELATONIN. Activation of melatonin receptors has been associated with decreased intracellular CYCLIC AMP and increased hydrolysis of PHOSPHOINOSITIDES.
A potent synthetic agonist of GONADOTROPIN-RELEASING HORMONE with 3-(2-naphthyl)-D-alanine substitution at residue 6. Nafarelin has been used in the treatments of central PRECOCIOUS PUBERTY and ENDOMETRIOSIS.
OBJECTIVE: Puberty is a period characterized by growth spurt and rapid change in body composition. The effect of GnRH agonist therapy for central precocious puberty on bone mineral density is unclear....
Human puberty is triggered by the reemergence of GnRH pulsatile secretion with progressive activation of the gonadal function. A number of genes have been identified in the complex regulatory neuroend...
McCune-Albright Syndrome (MAS) is a congenital endocrine disorder due to mosaic tissutal hyper-function. We describe a boy with a molecularly confirmed MAS, clinically evident with congenital café-a...
STUDY OBJECTIVES: We analyzed the potential predictive factors for precocious puberty, observed in some cases of childhood narcolepsy with cataplexy (NC) and for obesity, a much more common feature of...

The purpose of this study is to determine if leuprolide acetate is safe and effective in treating children with Central Precocious Puberty, and to assess long term effects of leuprolide ac...
The purpose of this study is to determine if leuprolide acetate (11.25 mg and 30 mg) is safe in treating children with Central Precocious Puberty over a longer period of time (12 months).
OBJECTIVES: Purify and characterize a testis-stimulating factor in the blood of adult volunteers who had precocious puberty as boys.
The purpose of this study is to determine if new formulations (11.25 and 30 mg) of leuprolide are effective in treating children with Central Precocious Puberty.
The purpose of the protocol is to assess the efficacy of triptorelin 11.25 mg with respect to the proportion of children who maintain a regression or stabilisation of sexual maturity until...
