Impact of Diabetes Mellitus on Long-Term Mortality in Patients Presenting for Coronary Angiography.

To understand the current impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on long-term outcomes among patients referred for coronary angiography, we studied 14,337 consecutive patients (5,279 diabetic patients [37%]...

Comparative determinants of 5-year cardiovascular event rates in patients with unprotected left main coronary artery disease.

Diabetes mellitus (DM), low ejection fraction (EF), and the extent of coronary artery disease (CAD) have all been identified as predictors of cardiovascular events in multivessel disease, but their co...

Impact of diabetes on association between epicardial fat thickness and extent and complexity of coronary artery disease in patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction.

Epicardial fat thickness (EFT) is associated with increased cardio metabolic risk. Recent studies have suggested that there is a strong relationship between diabetes and EFT. Although the relationship...

Effects of blood-pressure-lowering treatment on outcome incidence in hypertension: 10 - Should blood pressure management differ in hypertensive patients with and without diabetes mellitus? Overview and meta-analyses of randomized trials.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with an increased risk of hypertension, and cardiovascular and renal disease, and it has been recommended that management of hypertension should be more aggressi...

Impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus on the long-term mortality in patients who were treated by coronary artery bypass surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Recent scientific reports have mainly focused on the comparison between coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) and percutaneous coronary intervention. However, the impact of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T...

Evaluation of Association Between Obstructive Sleep Apnea and the Severity of Coronary Artery Disease

Effects of Agonists of Glucagon Like Peptide - 1 Receptors (GLP-1R) on Arterial Stiffness, Endothelial Glycocalyx and Coronary Flow Reserve in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease and Patients With Diabetes Mellitus

Arterial stiffness is associated with increased risk for cardiovascular disease. Moreover, the integrity of endothelial glycocalyx plays a vital role in vascular permeability, inflammation...

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Surgical therapy of ischemic coronary artery disease achieved by grafting a section of saphenous vein, internal mammary artery, or other substitute between the aorta and the obstructed coronary artery distal to the obstructive lesion.

Direct myocardial revascularization in which the internal mammary artery is anastomosed to the right coronary artery, circumflex artery, or anterior descending coronary artery. The internal mammary artery is the most frequent choice, especially for a single graft, for coronary artery bypass surgery.

A subclass of DIABETES MELLITUS that is not INSULIN-responsive or dependent (NIDDM). It is characterized initially by INSULIN RESISTANCE and HYPERINSULINEMIA; and eventually by GLUCOSE INTOLERANCE; HYPERGLYCEMIA; and overt diabetes. Type II diabetes mellitus is no longer considered a disease exclusively found in adults. Patients seldom develop KETOSIS but often exhibit OBESITY.

A complication of INTERNAL MAMMARY-CORONARY ARTERY ANASTOMOSIS whereby an occlusion or stenosis of the proximal SUBCLAVIAN ARTERY causes a reversal of the blood flow away from the CORONARY CIRCULATION, through the grafted INTERNAL MAMMARY ARTERY (internal thoracic artery), and back to the distal subclavian distribution.

A subtype of DIABETES MELLITUS that is characterized by INSULIN deficiency. It is manifested by the sudden onset of severe HYPERGLYCEMIA, rapid progression to DIABETIC KETOACIDOSIS, and DEATH unless treated with insulin. The disease may occur at any age, but is most common in childhood or adolescence.
