Summary of "Influence of 9p21.3 genetic variants on clinical and angiographic outcomes in early-onset myocardial infarction."

The purpose of this study was to test whether the 9p21.3 variant rs1333040 influences the occurrence of new cardiovascular events and coronary atherosclerosis progression after early-onset myocardial infarction.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Host Cell Factor C1

A cellular transcriptional coactivator that was originally identified by its requirement for the stable assembly IMMEDIATE-EARLY PROTEINS of the HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS. It is a nuclear protein that is a transcriptional coactivator for a number of transcription factors including VP16 PROTEIN; GA-BINDING PROTEIN; EARLY GROWTH RESPONSE PROTEIN 2; and E2F4 TRANSCRIPTION FACTOR. It also interacts with and stabilizes HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS PROTEIN VMW65 and helps regulate GENETIC TRANSCRIPTION of IMMEDIATE-EARLY GENES in HERPES SIMPLEX VIRUS.

Recombination, Genetic

Production of new arrangements of DNA by various mechanisms such as assortment and segregation, CROSSING OVER; GENE CONVERSION; GENETIC TRANSFORMATION; GENETIC CONJUGATION; GENETIC TRANSDUCTION; or mixed infection of viruses.

Genetics, Population

The discipline studying genetic composition of populations and effects of factors such as GENETIC SELECTION, population size, MUTATION, migration, and GENETIC DRIFT on the frequencies of various GENOTYPES and PHENOTYPES using a variety of GENETIC TECHNIQUES.

Early Termination Of Clinical Trials

Earlier than planned termination of clinical trials.

Early Diagnosis

Methods to determine in patients the nature of a disease or disorder at its early stage of progression. Generally, early diagnosis improves PROGNOSIS and TREATMENT OUTCOME.

Association between the chromosome 9p21 locus and angiographic coronary artery disease burden: a collaborative meta-analysis.

This study sought to ascertain the relationship of 9p21 locus with: 1) angiographic coronary artery disease (CAD) burden; and 2) myocardial infarction (MI) in individuals with underlying CAD.

Genetic Mechanisms Mediating Atherosclerosis Susceptibility at the Chromosome 9p21 Locus.

Recent genome-wide association studies have demonstrated that common genetic variants in a region of chromosome 9p21 confer risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) and other atherosclerotic conditions....

Chromosome 9p21.3 polymorphism in a Chinese Han population is associated with angiographic coronary plaque progression in non-diabetic but not in type 2 diabetic patients.

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: We sought to explore the association of variant rs1333049 on chromosome 9p21.3 with coronary artery disease (CAD) and angiographic plaque progression in non-diabetic and type 2 d...

The chromosome 9p21 risk locus is associated with angiographic severity and progression of coronary artery disease.

Aims We tested the hypothesis that the 9p21 risk locus promotes atherosclerosis by examining the association between rs10757278 and coronary artery disease (CAD) severity and progression determined by...

Genes and coronary artery disease: where are we?

Susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD) is claimed to be 40% to 60% inherited, but until recently genetic risk factors predisposing to CAD have been elusive. Comprehensive prevention of CAD re...

Expression of 9p21 Variants in Response to Ischemia

Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that changes in the gene region on the short arm of chromosome 9 region 21 (9p21) will alter gene expression in response to ischemia during cardio...

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) Gene Variants and Coronary Artery Disease in a Chinese Han Population

The recognition of the association between circulating C-reactive protein (CRP) levels and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) has led to an increased emphasis on CRP genetic effects on C...
