Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Outcome And Process Assessment (health Care)

Evaluation procedures that focus on both the outcome or status (OUTCOMES ASSESSMENT) of the patient at the end of an episode of care - presence of symptoms, level of activity, and mortality; and the process (ASSESSMENT, PROCESS) - what is done for the patient diagnostically and therapeutically.

Fluorodeoxyglucose F18

The compound is given by intravenous injection to do POSITRON-EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY for the assessment of cerebral and myocardial glucose metabolism in various physiological or pathological states including stroke and myocardial ischemia. It is also employed for the detection of malignant tumors including those of the brain, liver, and thyroid gland. (From Martindale, The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p1162)

Needs Assessment

Systematic identification of a population's needs or the assessment of individuals to determine the proper level of services needed.

Stroke

A group of pathological conditions characterized by sudden, non-convulsive loss of neurological function due to BRAIN ISCHEMIA or INTRACRANIAL HEMORRHAGES. Stroke is classified by the type of tissue NECROSIS, such as the anatomic location, vasculature involved, etiology, age of the affected individual, and hemorrhagic vs. non-hemorrhagic nature. (From Adams et al., Principles of Neurology, 6th ed, pp777-810)

Heat Stroke

A condition caused by the failure of body to dissipate heat in an excessively hot environment or during PHYSICAL EXERTION in a hot environment. Contrast to HEAT EXHAUSTION, the body temperature in heat stroke patient is dangerously high with red, hot skin accompanied by DELUSIONS; CONVULSIONS; or COMA. It can be a life-threatening emergency and is most common in infants and the elderly.

Accelerometry-based physical activity and exercise capacity in pediatric kidney transplant patients.

BACKGROUND: Low physical activity (PA) is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for children with chronic conditions. A few published studies have measured the exercise capaci...

A comparison of dynamic rotational knee instability between anatomic single-bundle and over-the-top anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using triaxial accelerometry.

PURPOSE: Recently, single-bundle (SB) anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been advanced by the anatomic concept, but the biomechanical outcome of the anatomic method has not been fully...

Physical activity in children and adolescents with autism assessed by triaxial accelerometry.

What is already known about this subject Individuals with disabilities are more likely to be sedentary compared to the general population. Individuals with ASD show several impairments in motor and ph...

Head movements during two computer work tasks assessed by accelerometry.

We investigated whether potential differences in head inclinations and accelerations for two highly similar computer work tasks could be detected using (1) a triaxial accelerometer and (2) a simulated...

Real-time estimation of daily physical activity intensity by a triaxial accelerometer and a gravity-removal classification algorithm.

We have recently developed a simple algorithm for the classification of household and locomotive activities using the ratio of unfiltered to filtered synthetic acceleration (gravity-removal physical a...
