Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Lymphangioma, Cystic
A cystic growth originating from lymphatic tissue. It is usually found in the neck, axilla, or groin.
Pemphigus, Benign Familial
An autosomal dominantly inherited skin disorder characterized by recurrent eruptions of vesicles and BULLAE mainly on the neck, axillae, and groin. Mutations in the ATP2C1 gene (encoding the secretory pathway Ca2++/Mn2++ ATPase 1 (SPCA1)) cause this disease. It is clinically and histologically similar to DARIER DISEASE - both have abnormal, unstable DESMOSOMES between KERATINOCYTES and defective CALCIUM-TRANSPORTING ATPASES. It is unrelated to PEMPHIGUS VULGARIS though it closely resembles that disease.
Carbuncle
An infection of cutaneous and subcutaneous tissue that consists of a cluster of boils. Commonly, the causative agent is STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS. Carbuncles produce fever, leukocytosis, extreme pain, and prostration.
Prolidase Deficiency
Rare autosomal recessive disorder of metabolism due to mutations in the prolidase gene. It is characterized by recurrent lower extremity skin ulcers, recurrent infections, and FACIES, often with mental retardation.
