Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions

Gastrectomy

Excision of the whole (total gastrectomy) or part (subtotal gastrectomy, partial gastrectomy, gastric resection) of the stomach. (Dorland, 28th ed)

Poult Enteritis Mortality Syndrome

An acute, transmissible, infectious disease associated with high MORTALITY and MORBIDITY in young turkeys (poults). It is characterized by DIARRHEA; ANOREXIA; growth depression, and immune dysfunction. The cause is unknown but astroviruses (AVASTROVIRUS) and coronaviruses (CORONAVIRUS, TURKEY) have been isolated from diseased poults and are thought to cause the enteritis and increased susceptibility to bacterial infections.

Hypertrophy, Right Ventricular

Enlargement of the RIGHT VENTRICLE of the heart. This increase in ventricular mass is often attributed to PULMONARY HYPERTENSION and is a contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

Health Status Indicators

The measurement of the health status for a given population using a variety of indices, including morbidity, mortality, and available health resources.

Hypertrophy, Left Ventricular

Enlargement of the LEFT VENTRICLE of the heart. This increase in ventricular mass is attributed to sustained abnormal pressure or volume loads and is a contributor to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

Morbidity and mortality after laparoscopic gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer: results of a phase II clinical trial.

BACKGROUND: Very few reports are available on laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) for advanced gastric cancer (AGC) patients. We therefore conducted a prospective phase II clinical trial to address the feas...

Laparoscopic versus open D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: The oncologic safety and feasibility of laparoscopic D2 gastrectomy for advanced gastric cancer are still uncertain. The aim of this study is to compare our results for laparoscopic D2 gas...

National outcomes and uptake of laparoscopic gastrectomy for cancer in England.

BACKGROUND: Gastrectomy remains the mainstay of curative treatment for gastric cancer, yet it is associated with significant postoperative mortality. The laparoscopic approach has been introduced in a...
