Role of tachykinin and neurokinin receptors in the regulation of ovine omasal contractions.
Summary of "Role of tachykinin and neurokinin receptors in the regulation of ovine omasal contractions."
The present study investigated a role of tachykinins (TK) and neurokinin (NK) receptors (NK-R) in the non-cholinergic regulation of omasal contractions in sheep. Semiquantitative reverse transcription (RT)-PCR revealed that both preprotachykinin (PPT)-A and PPT-B mRNA were distributed in the omasal muscle layers and that NK-R type-1 (NK-1R) and type-2 (NK-2R) mRNA were largely expressed in the same tissues. Cumulative application of substance P (SP), neurokinin A (NKA), and neurokinin B (NKB) at 0.03-10μM induced tonic contractions of omasal muscle strips, and the contractile amplitude increased in order of NKB Laboratory of Veterinary Physiology and Nutrition, Department of Biosciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, Rakuno Gakuen University, Japan; Laboratory of Veterinary Physiology, Department of Biosciences, School of Veterinary Medicine, Rakuno Gakuen Univ This article was published in the following journal. Name: Regulatory peptides Receptors, Tachykinin Cell surface proteins that bind tachykinins with high affinity and trigger intracellular changes influencing the behavior of cells. Three classes of tachykinin receptors have been characterized, the NK-1; NK-2; and NK-3; which prefer, respectively, substance P, neurokinin A (substance K, neurokinin alpha, neuromedin L), and neurokinin B (neurokinin beta, neuromedin K). Receptors, Neurokinin-2 A class of cell surface receptors for tachykinins that prefers neurokinin A; (NKA, substance K, neurokinin alpha, neuromedin L), neuropeptide K; (NPK); or neuropeptide gamma over other tachykinins. Neurokinin-2 (NK-2) receptors have been cloned and are similar to other G-protein coupled receptors. Receptors, Neurokinin-3 A class of cell surface receptors for tachykinins that prefers neurokinin B (neurokinin beta, neuromedin K) over other tachykinins. Neurokinin-3 (NK-3) receptors have been cloned and are members of the G-protein coupled receptor superfamily. They have been found in the central nervous system and in peripheral tissues. Neurokinin A A mammalian neuropeptide of 10 amino acids that belongs to the tachykinin family. It is similar in structure and action to SUBSTANCE P and NEUROKININ B with the ability to excite neurons, dilate blood vessels, and contract smooth muscles, such as those in the BRONCHI. Neurokinin B A mammalian neuropeptide of 10 amino acids that belongs to the tachykinin family. It is similar in structure and action to SUBSTANCE P and NEUROKININ A with the ability to excite neurons, dilate blood vessels, and contract smooth muscles, such as those in the URINARY BLADDER and UTERUS. Neurokinin B (NKB) is a potential regulator of pulsatile gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion via activation of the neurokinin-3 receptor (NK3R).
