Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Hernia, Femoral
A groin hernia occurring inferior to the inguinal ligament and medial to the FEMORAL VEIN and FEMORAL ARTERY. The femoral hernia sac has a small neck but may enlarge considerably when it enters the subcutaneous tissue of the thigh. It is caused by defects in the ABDOMINAL WALL.
Bone Plates
Implantable fracture fixation devices attached to bone fragments with screws to bridge the fracture gap and shield the fracture site from stress as bone heals. (UMDNS, 1999)
Monteggia's Fracture
Fracture in the proximal half of the shaft of the ulna, with dislocation of the head of the radius.
Fracture Fixation
The use of metallic devices inserted into or through bone to hold a fracture in a set position and alignment while it heals.
Vagotomy, Truncal
Bilateral dissection of the abdominal branches of the vagus nerve. It is used frequently in the surgical management of duodenal and gastric ulcers, as well as in physiologic studies of gastrointestinal secretion and motility.

Ipsilateral fractures of the femoral neck, shaft and distal end: long-term outcome of five cases.
Out of 52 cases of ipsilateral femoral fractures treated at a level I trauma centre between June 1994 and March 2008, the diaphyseal fracture was accompanied by a intracapsular neck fracture in only 2...
Bilateral stress fracture of the femoral shaft after total knee arthroplasty A case report.
The authors present a case of bilateral stress fracture of the femoral shaft 15years after total knee arthroplasty. Considerable femoral bowing deformity and varus malposition of the femoral and tibia...
We describe a case of successful revision total hip arthroplasty for a Vancouver type B3 periprosthetic femoral fracture with extensive bone stock deficiency and osteoporotic diaphyseal bone. The femu...
Simultaneous bilateral femoral neck fractures after electrical shock injury: a case report.
Simultaneous bilateral fractures of the femoral necks are rare injuries, especially when there is no underlying pathological condition. We report a 20-year-old man who sustained bilateral femoral neck...
A case of femoral diaphyseal fracture after long-term treatment with zoledronic acid.
We report here a case of femoral diaphyseal fracture thought to be caused by oversuppression of bone remodeling due to long-term bisphosphonate treatment. The patient was a 63-year-old postmenopausal...

Conservative Treatment Versus the Surgical Treatment of Diaphyseal Fractures of Humerus
The fracture of the humeral diaphysis is a condition that represents 2% of all fractures. The conservative treatment of diaphyseal fractures of the humerus has long been considered the onl...
The purpose of this study is to determine whether the rate of fracture healing and fracture union, repaired with the LISS device, will be as good as or better than the usual fracture fixat...

Hemiarthroplasty or Internal Fixation for Displaced Femoral Neck Fractures
An estimated 1.6 million patients sustain a hip fracture every year, about half of these are intracapsular femoral neck fractures. A femoral neck fracture is a life changing event for any...
