The effects of a downhill running bout on running economy.
Summary of "The effects of a downhill running bout on running economy."
This study investigated whether downhill (DH) running (10-min @ 214.4 m·min(-1) and -10% grade) would elicit acute and delayed effects on running economy (RE) upon completion of DH running (RE2) and daily over 72 h (RE3, RE4, RE5). Fifteen runners (8 female, 7 male) completed the protocol. RE was measured during level running performed at 70% VO(2)peak. A baseline RE test (RE1) was used for comparison. Muscle soreness was significantly elevated at RE3 and RE4 vs. RE1. Oxygen uptake was significantly elevated at RE2 relative to RE3, RE4 and RE5 but was not different from RE1. Heart rate was similarly elevated at RE2. Measures of ankle, knee and hip joint angles at heel strike and toe off were not affected at any time-point in a subset of subjects (N = 6). A short DH running bout did not elicit significant delayed adverse effects on oxygen uptake or gait parameters relative to baseline.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
An activity in which the body is propelled by moving the legs rapidly. Running is performed at a moderate to rapid pace and should be differentiated from JOGGING, which is performed at a much slower pace.
Running at a low rate of speed. It can be done as a means of conditioning or for general health and well being.
Medial Tibial Stress Syndrome
SKELETAL MUSCLE pain and tenderness along the posteromedial TIBIA resulting from exercise such as running and other physical activity.
Electric Power Supplies
Devices that control the supply of electric current for running electrical equipment.
A family of flightless, running BIRDS, in the order Casuariiformes. The emu is the only surviving member of the family. They naturally inhabit forests, open plains, and grasslands in Australia.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether increased tendon-aponeurosis stiffness and contractile strength of the triceps surae (TS) muscle-tendon units induced by resistance training...
Abstract The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of heavy resistance, explosive resistance, and muscle endurance training on neuromuscular, endurance, and high-intensity running performanc...
There is limited understanding of the mitochondrial adaptation following repeated eccentric exercise bouts, a model resulting in muscle adaptation known as the repeat bout effect. It was hypothesized...
The purpose of the study was to verify if a downhill running protocol was able to induce nonfunctional overreaching in more than 75% of mice. The rodents were divided into control (C), trained (TR) an...
The effects of running wheel activity on food intake and meal patterns were measured under several cost conditions for food in CD1 mice. In a first experiment, voluntary wheel running activity increas...
Inter-individual variability in energetic cost of running may be partly explained by lower limbs mechanical characteristics. The transposition of muscle mechanical model with two component...
The purpose is to evaluate the effects of adding a wheel assisted running training (WART) to a conventional mixed physical activity training (CT) program on walking and gross motor functio...
Each year, a significant portion of men and women who engage in physical activities such as walking or running reduce their activity and by doing so place themselves at greater risk of obe...
