From Head to Heel: a new and simple approach to the systematic care of premature infants in the outpatient clinics.
Summary of "From Head to Heel: a new and simple approach to the systematic care of premature infants in the outpatient clinics."
Follow-up of premature infants in the outpatient clinics after graduation from the NICU, is a challenging issue for both parents and doctors. With an increasing number of survival of the premature infants, maintaining the quality of life and timely diagnosis of the late-onset complications have become the focus of care after discharge from the hospital since 1960s (1,2). Today, medical technology has dramatically improved and the primary care providers are taking care of a growing population of former premature infants. It is critical that primary care providers understand the special difficulties facing these infants and their families (3). © 2012 The Author(s)/Acta Paediatrica © 2012 Foundation Acta Paediatrica.

Medical and Biotech [MESH] Definitions
Evidence-based Dentistry
An approach or process of practicing oral health care that requires the judicious integration of systematic assessments of clinical relevant scientific evidence, relating to the patient's oral and medical condition and history, with the dentist's clinical expertise and the patient's treatment needs and preferences. (from J Am Dent Assoc 134: 689, 2003)
Plagiocephaly
The condition characterized by uneven or irregular shape of the head often in parallelogram shape with a flat spot on the back or one side of the head. It can either result from the premature CRANIAL SUTURE closure (CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS) or from external forces (NONSYNOSTOTIC PLAGIOCEPHALY).
Hospice Care
Specialized health care, supportive in nature, provided to a dying person. A holistic approach is often taken, providing patients and their families with legal, financial, emotional, or spiritual counseling in addition to meeting patients' immediate physical needs. Care may be provided in the home, in the hospital, in specialized facilities (HOSPICES), or in specially designated areas of long-term care facilities. The concept also includes bereavement care for the family. (From Dictionary of Health Services Management, 2d ed)
Ventricular Premature Complexes
A type of cardiac arrhythmia with premature contractions of the HEART VENTRICLES. It is characterized by the premature QRS complex on ECG that is of abnormal shape and great duration (generally >129 msec). It is the most common form of all cardiac arrhythmias. Premature ventricular complexes have no clinical significance except in concurrence with heart diseases.
Obstetric Labor, Premature
Onset of OBSTETRIC LABOR before term (TERM BIRTH) but usually after the FETUS has become viable. In humans, it occurs sometime during the 29th through 38th week of PREGNANCY. TOCOLYSIS inhibits premature labor and can prevent the BIRTH of premature infants (INFANT, PREMATURE).
